June 16, 1999 The adult Board met at 5:45 A.M. Present were: Carey Kalupson, Mark anderson, John Bierbower, Cliff Day, Ron Frederick, Daryl Schafer, Nick Stollar, Annette Gray, Bill Kronen, Vicki Lantz, Chris Weller, Tim Weller. The concensus of the group was that the evening program at the Ag Arena was exceptional and the state officers and Daryl were to be commended. Bussing went well. Two students were disqualified - one for snuff and one for a boy being in a girls dorm (no action was taken about the girl). Wednesday evening session was discussed. Alternate bus routes were discussed. Ventilation system in the ag arena is on automatic controls, louvers cannot be opened manually. Discussion on ventilation. Reflections program was very well received. Discussion on the sound system which was too loud in many parts of the arena, but OK in other parts. Vicki announced that she will no longer be a regional coordinator after July. She will serve on the national FFA Board. She is looking for a replacement. Chris will need to do a mailing to all Southcentral teachers to advertise this position. The one speaker who did not give her speech was on the nominating committee and therefore not permitted to give her speech. No replacement was found as the student was not notified of nominating committee until after the deadline. Housing problems were discussed. Housing was done by housing, not the short course office. Committee assignments were poorly done - spelling, teachers entered as contestants, requests for committee were not honored. Numerous problems were discussed. Dorms were not locked until after the curfew. No security showed up until Phil called. Then security was not what it should have been. Deadline for registration was discussed. Several students were charged late dues prices. Cliff said he had 3 students had not paid their dues as of this morning. Teachers had been contacted previously by Mary or someone else. Discussion on who is responsible for getting judges for contests - the chairperson???? Questions on the caliber of the horse judging CDE. Written reasons were given - not oral reasons as per national FFA. Personal relations with University personnel and local breeders, boarders must be cultivated. In floriculture, practicums were switched from Wednesday to Tuesday which left some students without materials. It is the opinion of the Board that materials should be supplied for students. More independent judges were needed in many contests. Teachers should not be judging their own students. Forget the tentative schedule mailed ahead of time. There should be registration for early CDE's at the main registration area as a way to double check on which students are actually in attendance. Also problems with teachers not getting information from CDE chairs. H. O Sargent awards were approved. close at 7:00 A.M.
