Minutes of the Pennsylvania FFA Board of Directors meeting – July 7, 2003
State FFA President Eric Rubenstein called the meeting to order at 1:00pm. The State Officers performed opening ceremonies. In attendance were, Eric Rubenstein, Amber Frank, Brian Oberholtzer, Melissa Sankey, Amy Kaucher, Becky Hedges, Heather Sisto, Bernadette Nace, Eric Chamberlin, Laura Grove, Jason Klouser, David Bittner, Ellen Aurand, Dennis Scanlon, Stephen Kline, Chris Weller, Cecil Lohr, Samuel Heyler, Kerry Richards, Robert Leib, Tiffany Hoy, Phil Hoy, Dianna Dellinger, Carleen Vorisek, Michelle Wetzel, Dr. Tom Brunning, Penny Brammer and Mike Brammer.
Mr. Lohr explained to the procedures of the meeting and introductions were made since this was the first Board meeting of the new State Officer team. Suggestion was made to have nametags on the tables for future Board meetings.
Mike Brammer presented the secretary’s report. Bernadette Nace moved to accept the minutes as presented. Motion passed. Motion to concur by Dr Scanlon. Motion passed.
Penny Brammer presented the Treasurer’s report. Ellen Aurand moved to approve the dues and penalties listing including the $1.00 charge per member if rosters are done by the State Staff from a hard copy. Motion passed. Motion to concur by Bernadette Nace. Motion passed.
Eric Rubenstein presented the Officers report.
Mike Brammer presented the Executive Manager’s report.
Dr. Kerry Richards presented the Foundation report. Exhibitors at Activities week, there were five at $150.00 each. They all seemed pleased. We will do again next year. Chapter Challenge points were discussed. The first of two golf tournaments is coming up – 10 to 15 teams short at Lancaster – over two courses. Western area tournament, at Scotch Valley, sold out. Auction items still needed. Discussion about a suite at the National FFA Convention.
David Bittner, National Officer Candidate reported that his application is due August 1, 2003. He is currently taking six credits at PSU. He is getting help from the staff at PSU. This fall he is taking 15 credits. David reported he is getting into a daily routine of training for the National Officer interviews.
Dr. Scanlon reported that PSU continues to support the Association. This fall there are 20 student teachers coming out!
Mr. Weller presented the Pennsylvania Department of Education report. He thanked the State Officers for attending the department. Career and work standards are almost done and will be posted on the PDE web site. Mr. Day has been busy with American Degrees and National Proficiency award applications as well as CDE’s for Nationals and the Big "E". Farm Show registration material should be on the PDE web site by mid August. No back to school mailing this year. It will be done electronically.
PAAE report presented by Stephen Kline. Mr. Kline thanked the State Officers for all their help with the upcoming summer conference.
Alumni report – Mike Brammer reported that the Pennsylvania FFA web site now had information about the Alumni. There are currently three individuals that are trying to get something started.
REGIONAL COORDINATORS REPORTS
South Central – Mrs. Dellinger reported on meetings at activities week. She also went over a list of items received from the AFY area teachers.
Western – Mr. Kronan was not in attendance.
Eastern – Michelle Wetzel reported that the Eastern region teachers will be meeting Friday, July 11 at Yoders.
North Central – Annette Gray was not in attendance.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
FFA Activities Week – Mr. Hoy reported there were 1135 students and approx. 200 teachers and chaperones in attendance. Two schools lost keys. They are working on the final expenses and should have a report out soon. Next year the coordinator will be Lydia Everhart. Ellen Aurand moved to issue refunds to three chapters. Motion passed. Amy Kaucher moved to concur. Motion passed. Suggestion for an 8:30 am start next year on Thursday.
CDE Committee – Mr. Day had sent a written report for everyone. The committee meets later this evening. Thank you to Phil Hoy for all his help over the past years at Activities Week.
Blast Off – Becky Hedges gave a verbal report about the State Officers training so far and the Blast-Off session.
NLCSO – Mike Brammer gave an update report on Pennsylvania hosting this years’ NLCSO conference.
OLD BUSINESS
Policy for State Officer behavioral problems was discussed. Ellen Aurand moved to adopt the policy as written. Motion passed. Motion to concur made by Bernadette Nace. Motion passed.
NEW BUSINESS
David Bittner gave a hand out of the delegates report at the state convention. Suggestion from David was to have an issue based delegate session. Maybe the issues could be derived at SLLC.
Keystone applications – Website version only – due to coordinators by November 13 – Committee to meet November 14th, 6pm. Ellen Aurand motioned to put application on the web site for all to use. Motion passed. Jason Klouser moved to concur. Motion passed. Mike Brammer to make sure the application is on the web site.
Dates were set for all Board meetings for the year. They are as follows:
September 5 – Ken Rhoads Camp Ground
December 5 – PSU
February 27 – PSU
April 2 – PSU
May 14 – PDA
Meeting was adjourned at 3:37pm.
