2010 State Legislative Leadership Conference

The 23rd State Legislative Leadership Conference, held March 15-17, 2010 was a great success.  There were 413 members and advisors registered for the event.

On the first day of the conference, students had the opportunity to participate in educational workshops where they learned about the legislative process, proper etiquette, and parliamentary procedure.  Each of the students then became a part of the House or Senate, majority or minority and began discussing one of the six bills.  After a great afternoon of committee and caucus meetings, we had a costume dinner to relax.  After dinner there were more meetings where students continued discussion on their bills.  Reflections that evening were performed by the six Second Year Scholars.

On Monday, we started out with breakfast and caucus meetings where students were able to finish all discussion to their bills.  Before lunch, the members had the opportunity to vote on the issues they felt were most important to be discussed at State Convention.  Then we all headed off to lunch and after lunch all of the students and advisors left for the educational tours.  We visited Middle Creek Wildlife Preserve, Wengers of Myerstown, and The Greater Lebanon Refuse Authority.  All of the conference attendees then met at Hoss’s in Annville for dinner before heading back to the hotel for the graffiti party and dance.  Reflections Monday night were performed by six of the state officers.

Tuesday morning all participants gathered in Harrisburg with over 60 legislators to have breakfast at the Hilton.  We heard from Mr. Pitzarella of Range Resources and Mr. Wachter of Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, as well as Pennsylvania Agriculture Secretary, Russell C. Redding.  Upon completion of breakfast, the members all met on the Capitol steps for a group photo that concluded the conference. Members and their Advisors then visited the capitol and met with their Legislators.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU to all of our sponsors and also to the members and the advisors for attending.
